What length of session do I choose? It depends on what you're looking for! Here's a break down of our massage session times. This blog post might help too "How Long Should My Massage Session Last?" 30 minutes - We recommend a 30 minute massage for specific work on areas such as the head and neck for headache relief, upper shoulders or quick low back pain relief. Great for a quick lunch break! 60 minutes - This session length is a good start for new clients. It OK for a general all over massage, but it's not enough time to focus on one particular area. If you 're having low back pain then the session could be used to focus TOTALLY on the lower body for the hour session and possibly include a few stretches. 90 minutes - An hour and a half massage session is perfect for detail work on a few target areas and a full body focus. We're talking feet, legs, hips, back, shoulders, arms, chest, head and neck. And a few stretches as well! Its the sweet spot for a lot of clients. 120 minutes - This session is massage heaven for the massage connoisseur! We can work in great detail from your metatarsals to your phalanges, up to the top of your head and stretch every joint in between!

This is why we ask for an intake form to be filled out for your first appointment with us. Listed below are a few examples where we may decide to withhold treatment: had recent eye procedures/Lasik surgery within 72 hours breast implants with the last 9 months a history of Tuberculosis, Thrombosis, aneurysm, or ongoing kidney disorders current radiation therapy treatments any knee, hip, spine, shoulder, or major joint surgeries within 6 weeks Phlebitis or Cellulitis Osteoporosis, Spondylolithesis pacemaker, stint, shunt or a history of congestive heart failure These are just a few reasons NOT to do Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage. This is why its important we know your medical history so we can provide the best experience possible. And last but not least, Ashiatsu is DEFINITELY not for someone who likes light pressure in their massage. Looking for DEEP? Then you're in the right place. ;)

What should I not do during a massage?Don’t be on the phone checking texts and emails, and don’t forget to turn your ringer on silent! The massage session needs to be focused on you and your massage session's goals. Some clients like to talk to their massage therapist, but staying quiet and relaxed may help you focus more on your body and increase your self-awareness. Some clients find talking therapeutic, especially if they live alone and don’t have someone to talk to often. There’s no right or wrong, it's your session.
-
How do I prepare for my first massage?Don't eat a big meal within an hour before your massage, Arrive a few minutes early to discuss your session, and/or complete any forms, Turn your phone off, And, go to the bathroom.
-
What should I wear for a full-body massage? You can wear whatever you want during your massage. Some people aren’t comfortable removing their clothing. If you wear stretchy yoga or gym clothes, we can do compression and stretching sessions. If you want a traditional massage with gliding strokes with oils or creme, then we ask the client to undress to their comfort level. Full draping with a sheet is provided, and only the area that is currently being massaged will be undraped. If you must keep your undergarments on, that’s fine; we can work around them but leaving a bra on will restrict the long flowing strokes along the back.
-
Should I shower before a massage?Showering before a massage is appropriate and welcomed by your therapist, especially if you’re coming from a workout. If you’re coming from work, it may not be necessary unless you have a really physical job, and then if you don’t have time for a quick rinse-off, body wipes would suffice. The most important thing is to refrain from wearing cologne, perfumes, or body sprays. Not everyone can tolerate strong smells.
-
Do you wear a bra when getting a massage? We tell clients to undress to their comfort level, but it is usually preferable to take off your bra as it makes it difficult to work on your middle back. There are so many elongating and gliding massage strokes along the back that help with back pain and other issues that a bra prohibits, so we recommend not wearing one when getting a massage.
-
Should I shave my legs before a massage? We get asked that question often, but it’s up to you! Leg hair doesn't bother your massage therapist, and usually, we don’t even notice it. The same goes for underarms or facial hair.
-
What happens during a 60-minute massage? What happens during a 60-minute massage can vary for each individual. If you are looking for general relaxation with no specific work on just one area, then the massage usually starts at the feet and will include the back of the legs, the hips, the back, and the shoulders. Then once the client turns over, we usually give them a warm neck roll to support their cervical spine and an eye cover, and then start at the feet again, the lower legs, upper legs, arms, and hands, ending with neck and head work. Some clients may ask for just the lower body to be worked on; for instance, a runner would like more detailed work on their feet and legs, and we could end the session with neck work. Or for someone with lower back pain we may start with hip work, lower back and, then some psoas stretches. The best thing to do is talk with your massage therapist about the goals of the session and they will discuss options with you and how to best address your concerns.
-
What is the most relaxing massage? Some people find a deeper pressure relaxing, and some people prefer a lighter pressure! It just depends. Our barefoot massage is a deeper and broader pressure that most clients find very relaxing, and it's excellent for pain relief.
-
What does a female wear for a massage?Whatever you are most comfortable in and can relax in. We can work around any situation so that the client can feel safe and comfortable.
